Product Characteristics: Glycerol-3-phosphate (G3P) acyltransferases (GPAT, EC 2.3.1.15), such as GPAM (MIM 602395) and GPAT3, catalyze the initial step of de novo triacylglycerol (TAG) synthesis by converting glycerol-3-phosphate (G3P) to lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) (Cao et al., 2006 [PubMed 17170135]).
Target Information: This gene encodes a member of the lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase protein family. The encoded protein is an enzyme which catalyzes the conversion of glycerol-3-phosphate to lysophosphatidic acid in the synthesis of triacylglycerol.
